An out of bounds Glitch City in Pokémon Gold caused by stepping out the boundaries of Elm's Lab. Note the corrupted name

Please note that some of the data described here may not be fully reliable if it depends on the contents of writable memory, such as RAM; WRAM; SRAM.

Out of bounds Glitch Cities in Generation II are a type of Glitch City in Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal.

These Glitch Cities appear when the player steps on one of the boundaries of a map. Opening the menu with start may be required after stepping on the boundary first. Whether a Glitch City is loaded or not and whether the game doesn't freeze seems to strongly depend on the position that the player steps.

The Route 22 music seems to play in these Glitch Cities a lot, for unknown reasons.

Method (through GameShark)

Pokémon Gold and Silver

1. Use the following walk through walls codes for Pokémon Gold and Silver:

  • 0100A3CE
  • 0100A4CE
  • 0100A5CE
  • 0100A6CE

2. Walk off of the area's boundaries and the player may enter a Glitch City. If the game freezes, try a different place.

The following location seems to work.

Pokémon Crystal

1. Use the following walk through walls codes for Pokémon Crystal:

  • 0100FAC2
  • 0100FBC2
  • 0100FCC2
  • 0100FDC2

2. Walk off of the area's boundaries and the player may enter a Glitch City. If the game freezes, try a different place.

Corruption

Stepping in to an out of bounds Glitch City may corrupt:

In Pokémon Gold and Silver

  • The player's name.
  • The options. Battle scene and battle style may be changed. Going out of bounds allows the player to access frame 0, but it looks like a normal border.
  • The play time.

In Pokémon Crystal

  • The music.
  • Whether the Pokégear is obtained.
  • The player's money.
  • The player's badges.
  • The Pokédex mode, such as New Pokédex Mode/Old Pokédex Mode. If changed to a glitch mode, it may be impossible to change it back to a valid mode without modifying D959.
  • The player's items and number of items.
  • Pokémon registered in the Pokédex.

Pokémon data

  • Held items.
  • Letters in the nickname.
