Reason given: Investigate what SciresM reported about differences in behavior between 67 and over 67 moves

In version 1.0 of Pokémon Sword and Shield, the game does not function correctly and may freeze if the Move Relearner is brought up and there are exactly 67, or over 67 available moves. Sometimes a blank named move (other times named "———") may appear, and choosing it may result in the error message "The software was closed because an error occurred."

A confirmed Pokémon to perform this glitch is with Mew, who learns all Technical Records (TRs), which unlike TMs can be retaught by the Move Relearner. A Gallade raised from a bred Ralts with Egg moves may also work if the player cannot obtain Mew.

This glitch was fixed in the version 1.1 patch, with the move relearner menu now properly being able to cope with more moves.

Variations

  • Exactly 67 moves: Error message after learning move/closing menu but no glitch move
  • Error message before menu is brought up
  • 68 moves (unknown circumstances): Glitch move appears on the menu. Doing anything other than scrolling results in an error message.
  • Game may bring up error message while scrolling (not selecting anything or closing a menu) on rarer occasions
