On the third floor of the Pokémon Tower, item 33 is item 0x90 (BATTLE STYLE in Red/Blue, p’é## ### ₽##Enemy # TRAINE in Yellow)

Not to be confused with the similar partial escape ghost capture glitch.

The map change ghost capture glitch is a glitch technique of the expanded item pack in Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow. It allows for the player to catch the ghost without a Silph Scope, by altering D35E/D35D (current map number).

Steps

0. Set up the expanded item pack

1. Encounter a ghost in the Pokémon Tower without a Silph Scope. The player should be unable to catch it, as it will block any Ball (including the Master Ball).

2. Modify what represents item 33 (D35E/D35D) and throw a Master Ball.

3. The player will catch the Pokémon under the disguise of the ghost, but will be sent to the map determined by what was swapped into item 33. This may be a Glitch City, and game freezes due to a bad map script may also occur. To avoid this, the player should try different item swaps, such as the Old Amber directly above it (Red/Blue).
