The purpose of the DayDex is to cover glitch days of the week in Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal, and potentially other Pokémon games which have them.
Glitch days of the week are invalid names for days of the week other than Monday through to Sunday.
In Generation II
In Generation II, the valid days of the week begin at 0x00: Sunday and go through to 0x06: Saturday.
Glitch days of the week occupy indices 0x07 through to 0xFF.
Glitch days of the week can be accessed from the clock reset screen with GameShark code 01xxD6D0 and the clock reset screen already enabled.
This can be achieved with the button sequence Down+Select+B on the title screen, which will prompt the player to enter a special password based on the player's money and Trainer ID.
Passwords can be generated with a special unofficial password generator, such as this one.
Alternatively, the Game Genie code C92-25B-3B6 will make any password work. However, while a Game Genie will work with Pokémon Gold on a Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance SP, it results in a solid white screen which makes it more difficult for the player to both enter the correct code and activate the clock reset screen.
Curiously, the colour of the input glove and marker for the last input letter or digit can differ between a Game Boy Advance SP and original Game Boy Color. The last letter or digit is fully visible on the original Game Boy Color while it is being printed at the bottom (although is invisible on the display at the bottom), so the player can exploit this by entering a letter or digit, seeing if it was the correct one, and erasing it if it was wrong. This combined with listening for the title screen music by ear and memorisation of the clock reset menu perfectly allows for the player to reset the clock this way.
It is not known whether a white screen occurs on an older Game Boy model.
Another means of activating the clock reset screen is through viewing a specific Glitch Unown[elaboration needed]; which causes the clock reset menu to appear upon reset, as the game believes the current time may be wrong.
